A call for action on Chelmsford parking chaos has been issued by the local Liberal Democrats. The increasing frustrations of residents and others (at Chelmsford's parking situation) were highlighted by the group, in a recent debate they called for at Chelmsford Borough Council.

New 111 service will be better than NHS Direct - Burstow

A new phone number for health problems will benefit patients, says Lib Dem Health Minister Paul Burstow MP. The Coalition Government announced the intention to establish "NHS 111" (to replace NHS Direct) in the Health White Paper in July. The new service is being piloted in four areas before being rolled out in 2013.

The Coalition Government has announced that car clamping on private land is to be banned. This long-standing Liberal Democrat policy and manifesto commitment will be introduced as part of the Freedom Bill this Autumn.

Vulnerable Essex children STILL at risk

Government inspectors from OFSTED have given Essex County Council an "inadequate" rating for the third year running. "No amount of spin can disguise the fact that this is a damming judgement, which is acutely embarrassing to the County Council," said Cllr Theresa Higgins, Liberal Democrat spokesman at Essex County Council.

Vince Cable announces large investment in low-carbon jobs

During a visit to the Corus plant in Redcar, the Business Secretary Lib Dem Vince Cable unveiled a funding package worth £4.6m from the Tees Valley Industrial Programme for 14 projects in the region. Of this package, £1.3m will help develop Carbon Capture and Storage technology, which will be vital in reducing carbon emissions while ensuring Britain's energy supply.

Lib Dem Minister sets out ambitious climate change policies

The Government has set out ambitious plans to tackle climate change and give the UK the secure, low carbon energy it needs. In his first Annual Energy Statement to the House of Commons, Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change, Chris Huhne MP laid out "a clear strategy for creating the 21st century energy system that this country urgently needs for an affordable, secure, low-carbon future."

Extra money for disadvantaged pupils.

The Lib Dem/Conservative Government has announced a Pupil Premium to target extra money at schools taking disadvantaged pupils. It would provide additional per pupil funding on top of the existing funding provided to schools. Schools will be free to spend the additional funding as they choose to raise the achievement of disadvantage pupils.
