South Woodham Ferrers Town Councillor Donna Eley has announced that she has joined the Liberal Democrats and will be putting herself forward in the Chelmsford City Council elections (for the Elmwood and Woodville Ward) on 4th May.

Donna has been a Town Councillor in South Woodham Ferrers since 2017 and Town Mayor since May 2022.

Donna said "Becoming a City Councillor is the logical next step for me to help represent the views of South Woodham Ferrers residents at City-wide level. You can get more done by being part of a larger team and that's why I've joined the Liberal Democrats.

"I particularly support the Lib Dem concerns to protect our environment and invest in local communities. For example, I am delighted that the Lib Dem budget for the city includes funding for South Woodham's Leisure Centre.

"I share the concerns of many locally about the impact of the planned development north of Burnham Road. However, this has been inevitable since the then-Conservative council leaders approved the plans back in June 2018. So now it needs City Councillors who will stand up for South Woodham and get the best deal for our area. I am looking forward to the challenge."

Donna will be standing with another Lib Dem member of South Woodham Ferrers Town Council, Terry Sherlock, and fellow Lib Dem Dee Davey.

Chelmsford Lib Dem Leader, Cllr. Stephen Robinson, said, "We are delighted to welcome Councillor Donna Eley as a member and candidate. She already has a strong track record as a Town Councillor. I know that Donna, Terry and Dee will be strong voices for South Woodham on the City Council."
