Councillors Hazel Clark and Marie Goldman inspect pavement in Hillside Grove

Your West Chelmsford councillors have been raising concerns about dangerous

pavements across our area. Cllr Hazel Clark met with representatives of Hillside Grove to highlight the dangerous condition of long stretches of pavement which have been responsible for trips and falls. One elderly resident suffered a fractured eye socket following a fall and another a suspected broken finger. Cllr Jude Deakin raised this issue with Conservative- run Essex County Council, who responded to say that the pavements do not currently meet the criteria for repair and that the next full safety inspection is not due until May 2024.

This leaves the ward councillors and residents extremely frustrated and even more concerned should snow and ice cover uneven cracked slabs along several metres of pavement on both sides of the road. Cllr Clark also reports that pavements in nearby Widford Road are likewise in an appalling condition with many defects already reported to Essex Highways.
