Jo Hayes' priorities for Mersea and Tiptree

Jo Hayes lays out her priorities for Mersea and Tiptree, for the County Council Elections:

I believe that after many years of Conservative rule at County Hall in Chelmsford, it is high time for change.

The poor state of our roads is plain to see. Conservative-run Essex County Council signed away the maintenance of Essex's roads to a commercial firm. I strongly oppose the failed Conservative policies of contracting-out public services for undisclosed profit.

Works are carried out under orders from Chelmsford with no consultation about what local people want and need. Liberal Democrats are fighting for important decisions - on highways, education, housing and more - to be made more locally.

The Conservatives continue to cut services and support for the most vulnerable in society. The Tory Party is more concerned with fighting itself over tax cuts for the rich and our membership of the EU than working for the good of all. I believe we can't risk letting them continue delivering cuts to vital services.

I am an experienced borough councillor, who campaigned for action to reduce traffic and tackle deadly air pollution in my ward. As a councillor I supported kerbside collection of food waste, which has drastically improved recycling rates. On waste disposal I want more use of rail transport, higher recycling targets, and no importation of waste from outside the county. I also oppose new nuclear power at Bradwell, believing it is unnecessary, unsafe and uneconomic.

I was born in Essex, attended local schools, and I care deeply about my home county. Vote for me for someone who will stand up for a fairer, more inclusive, more effective alternatives to the current Conservative administration at County Hall.
