New Chelmsford bus to ease hospital parking

2 Oct 2015

Essex County Council will introduce a one-year trial of a special shuttle bus service from the Chelmer Valley Park & Ride to Broomfield Hospital. Local Liberal Democrats have welcomed the move, for which they have argued for many years.

Said Lib Dem Highways spokesperson Cllr. Stephen Robinson, "Many years ago we argued that the Park & Ride site should be further north, to make it easier to run buses into the hospital. We are delighted that at last something along these lines is happening."

A single-decker bus will run every half an hour between the two sites from 7am to 7pm Monday to Saturday. The charge will be £3 per adult, but free to concessionary pass holders after 9.00am.

The one year trial service will start in December. It will cost just under £190,000, which is being funded by Broomfield Hospital as part of their obligation to support travel services.
