Pot hole review blocked in Essex
A proposal for an urgent review into Essex County Council's criteria for repairing potholes was rejected out of hand by the Conservative administration today. At a meeting of the Full Council today (15 May 2018), a motion was proposed by the Liberal Democrats.
The Lib Dem motion was calling for an urgent review of:
# The County Council's criteria for repairing potholes
# The repair methods council contractors are currently using
# The quality control standards the council has
This was to ensure that all council policies on pothole repairs are fit for purpose.
Speaking after the debate, Lib Dem county Cllr David Kendall said:
"I know many Essex residents will be very angry and frustrated when they hear about this decision.
The Conservatives have missed a great opportunity to seriously review the pothole issue. They have failed to address the serious concerns that many residents have regarding how pot holes are assessed, how they are repaired, and the quality and longevity of those repairs.
Simply throwing more money at the problem is not the answer. If the repairs fail quickly, it is wasteful."
