Tree-mendous work all round
Young trees have found loving homes in Chelmer Village & Beaulieu Park thanks to Chelmsford City Council’s 1000-tree giveaway, part of their Space to Thrive campaign. The bird cherry, crab apple, rowan and silver birch trees will provide food, shelter and habitat for all sorts of wildlife as they grow. In Boleyn Gardens, red horse chestnut trees in terminal decline sadly had to be removed, but 20 field maples - more resilient to climate change - have been planted in the same location. Look out for their beautiful, crimson-flushed spring growth!
Roadside trees and shrubs have been cut back ahead of spring growth and bird-nesting season to improve visibility and footpath lighting. Thanks to those of you who let us know about trees in need of some TLC in Aldridge Close, Chelmer Village Green and Pill Box Green; all reported to Chelmsford City Council for attention. Meanwhile, in Beaulieu Park a routine scan of a large turkey oak gracing Albemarle Link resulted in a visit from specialist tree surgeons, who carefully removed limbs that were dying back.
